Literary competitions in connection with the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be held on August 5 th at the Collectorate Conference Hall. Malayalam story, poetry, essay writing will be held. The competition is for the students of higher secondary and college. A contestant can only participate in one item. The memorable writings will be included in the memorial along with the cash awards. Boat song Competitions will be held in connection with the 65 th NehruTrophy Boat Race on August 8th at Municipal Square, opposite Boat Jetty. Those who are interested should register their names at Irrigation Division Office, Alappuzha before August 5 th for participating. Competitions for students will be conducted under Junior/Senior sections. Categories: Students: Junior (class 8 - 10), Senior (Higher Secondary/College) Women: 'Vechupaattu', 'Kuttanad' styles Men: 'Vechupaattu' , 'Aaranmula', 'Kuttanad' styles A maximum of 25 teams each in Students and Men/Women will be accommodated on First Come First basis.
Deepening work of the tracks for the 65 th Nehru Trophy Boat Race started. Convener, Infrastructure Committee & Executive Engineer, Irrigation informed that the drudging work will be completed by Saturday. The Asst. Executive Engineer, Alappuzha Irrigation Subdivision will be supervising the work.
Captains' meeting as part of the 65th NehruTrophy Boat Race will be held on August 2nd 10.00AM at YMCA Hall, Alappuzha. The Terms & Conditions on the boat race will be introduced to the Captains and Leading Captains of registered boats in the meeting. Convener, Infrastructure Committee & Executive Engineer, Irrigation had requested all Captains and Leading Captains of the registered boats to participate.
A total of 78 boats have registered for the 65 th Nehru Trophy Boat Race which will happen at the Punnamada Lake. The category of boats registered is as follows, 24 Chundan Boats, 4 Iruttukuthy A Grade Boats, 25 Iruttukuthy B Grade Boats, 10 Veppu Odi A Grade Boats, 5 Veppu Odi B Grade Boats, 3 Churulan Boats and 7 Thekkanodi Boats.
'It was the grand event which I have ever been part of ', said Mr.Vinayakan, the State Award Winner, during the release of the Mascot for NTBR 2017, in a function organized by the Publicity Committee. Sh. Vinayakan had told that he had watched the boat race 15 years ago and is proud and happy for becoming part of this event. He would be coming for the event if there is no shooting on August 12th.
'Kuttanadan Prawn rowing coconut palm boat (Olathoni)' by Sh. V.R Reghunath , Abhiramam, Pathirappally, had been selected as the Mascot for the 65th NehruTrophy Boat Race from 63 entries received in the competition held by the Publicity Committee. Sh. V.R Reghunath was the drawing teacher in Govt. H.S, Vechur. His entries had been selected as the Mascots for NTBR twice before.
Construction of Pandal for the 65th NehruTrophy Boat Race had been started. The District Collector & the Chairman NTBRS, Smt Veena N Madhavan had erected the pillar for the Pandal in a function held at Punnamada Finishing Point. The RDO & Secretary NTBRS Sh.Muraleedharan Pillai, Municipal Chairman & Convener, Cultural Committee, Sh. Thomas Joseph, Convener, Infrastructure Committee Smt. R. Rekha, Executive Committee Members, Sh. Mukkom Baby, Sh. M.V Halthaf, Sh. Jose Kaavanaad, Sh. A.V Murali, Sh. S.M Iqbal, Sh. Xavier T Kariyaalasheri have attended.
The first pole of the Pavilion, to be erected as a part of the 65th Nehru Trophy Boat Race, was planted on 20th July at around 10 am in the morning by the District Collector, Veena. N. Madhavan.
The District Collector, Veena. N. Madhavan said that the preparations for the 65th Nehru Trophy Boat race have begun. The collector was inaugurating the Nehru Trophy Welcome Group office at the Alappuzha Revenue Divisional Office. Pavilion's repairs have started. The deepening of the track will begin on Monday, the Collector said.
An amount of Rs 14.35 lakh has been given as Maintenance Grant for the boats said the RDO, Mr. S. Muralidharan Pillai. For the Chundan Vellam a total of 8.80 lakhs in Rs. 40,000 each, Rs. 25,000 for A grade, Rs. 20,000 for B grade, Rs. 15,000 for churulan vellam was granted making all together a total of Rs. 5.55 lakh.
District Collector Veena N. Madhavan, said that an identity card which has photo would be issued to all the rowers participating in the boat race. These have to be worn around the neck of the participating riders. While registering the identity cards and two photographs of the rowers should be provided. The photos and other information needed must be given by August 2 nd.
The meeting decided to implement the guideline of permitting 25 per cent of the total number of rowers of the Chundan, from other states and also those working in other states. Boating is permitted only to those who have completed 18 years of age.
The Transport Minister Mr. Thomas Chandy said that discussions were held with the army commanders in Kochi to conduct a demonstration of the naval force at the interval of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2017. The Kochi Naval Commander is a native of Kuttanadu. The minister said that they have shown interest to this. The Navy's performance and flowering have taken place before.
The release of the poster published by the Publicity Committee for promotion of the Nehru Trophy was released by the Finance Minister Dr. T.M Thomas Isaac. The District Collector Veena N. Madhavan was also there. The Society Secretary RDO S. Muralidharan Pillai, the convener of the publicity committee, Chandrahasan Vaduthala, ADM. M.K. Kabir, Infrastructure Committee Convenor, Irrigation Executive Engineer R. Rekha, District Information Officer P. Parvati Devi was also present at the function.
The Executive Members Meeting decided to extend the registration of the boats till July 25. A total of six boats have been registered. Four Chundan Vellam and two other boats have registered.
The Executive Committee, NTBR-2017 has decided to arrange faultless electronic starting facility for the Boat Race. The starting arrangement will be setup on temporarily constructed concrete pillars at the starting point; shutter like cross bars would be fixed with 25 HP double shift clutch and gear motor, which would be moved up and down when needed. The cross bar would be shifted and the starting time would be noted simultaneously with the click of a button.

The registration of boats would be from 10th to 20th of July.
ID cards for the oarsmen:
ID cards would be provided to the oarsmen.
Boat Race League:A committee would study the possibilities of organizing Boat Race League Competitions in the model of IPL. The final decision would be taken by the Government.
The District Collector Smt.Veena N. Madhavan visited permanent pavilions and starting and finishing points as part of the preparations for 65th Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The Direction shad been given to the Irrigation Executive Engineer for changing the old Floating Ferry and completing the repairing work of pavilions immediately.
All the Chundan Vellams (Snake Boats), Cheru Vellams (Small Boats) and the Vanitha Chundans (Woman Boats), should complete seven days of training. In case the training is less than seven days, those boats will not be eligible for the bonus. The days that the training is done will be evaluated and examined by the Grade Committee.
the day of the competition, the competitors must wear their allotted uniforms and must assemble at the finishing point before one in the afternoon. The competitors must wear the uniforms as well as the identity cards issued by the convenor of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society, until the race gets over. The chief starter gets the complete authority to disqualify the boats, whose members have not worn the uniforms or ID cards.
The participating teams must reach the masdrill on time. The teams that come late or those who do not come to the masdrill, would be given 25 points less in the bonus.
Each of the boats can have a maximum of 95 rowers and a minimum of 75 rowers. Apart from these rowers, there will be ground and participants. The rowing participants must be 18 years old.
The name and number of commutations of the sponsors that are given by the committee, to be displayed on the competition day are not to be stitched (increasing the length) or shifted.
At the starting point the starter only commits to precise information. The starting of the race is no less than a photo-finish precision or a still picture. The starter would inform three times and on the third time the boats would start from the line. If not correctly arranged in the line the boat would be disqualified.
Once the start signal is received, the competitors should, from the start to the end, follow their designated track. The timing of the first boat which crosses the finishing point is taken and the winner is announced. In case the boats do not follow their assigned track or the team does anything to hinder the race or if the boat doesn't cross the finishing line within the said time, the boats would be disqualified.
Once the boats have finished the race they should not go back on track. Go back to the starting point only through the backside of the dock and the Nehru Pavilion.
Captains of the boats selected for the final should be there near the Judge's Pavilion after the selection is drawn. Only the captains of the winning boats should climb to the pavilion after showing their Identity Cards to receive trophies.
Women's boat can only have a maximum of 5 men and they shouldn't row.
Participants involved in the competition should participate in a procession and the subsequent masdrill.
After each heat, of the match, the teams must place their boats in the lake away from the finishing point.
If the boat is parked in front of the VIP pavilion or in front of the elite pavilion, strict action will be taken and the bonus would be decreased by 50 per cent.
At the time of the trophy distribution after the festival, the boats should be placed at about three meters away from the VIP pavilion.
The registration of the boats for the 65th Nehru Trophy Boat race, happening on August 12 will start from July 10 th and will end on July 20 th . On all working days from 10 am to 5 pm, you can complete the registration process at the RDO office of Alappuzha, after paying nominal fees. The registration forms will be available here. Two photographs of each rower in the competition and the copy of their identity card should be issued at the time of registration. Without these valid documents the boats would not be registered, said the NTBR Society Secretary.
The track deepening for the 65th Nehru Trophy Boat will commence on Monday (July 17). No houseboats are allowed to be parked from the finishing point of the Punnamada Lake to Hotel Ramada starting from July 17 to 21. The Irrigation Executive Engineer informed that the boats should be parked elsewhere.
One more Chundan (Boat) has been registered for the 65th Nehru Trophy Boat race. The boat named Gabriel, which belongs to the Thuruthippuram Boat Club, is the boat that was registered. The registration will end on July 20, 2017. In total the number of registered boats is now four. The office of the welcome team was inaugurated on 15th of July at 9am at the Alappuzha R.D.O office by the district collector Veena N. Madhavan. The Executive Meeting of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society was held at the Collectorate Conference Hall on 15 th July at 12 noon. The poster of the Boat Race was released by the publicity committee.
